President’s Welcome

Warm Greetings, Sorors, and Friends!

On behalf of the New Jersey Garden City Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to our website. With a current membership of over 150 dynamic, dedicated, and visionary members, it is my esteemed honor to serve as the twelfth President of this vibrant, transformational, and resilient chapter.

We have continued to move NJGCAC forward with vision, experience, innovation, inspiration, courage, dedication, and love. Since our chapter chartering in April 1989, we have “Moved Forward: With No Turning Back” on our unwavering commitment to engaging, empowering, and elevating our chapter and community with Sisterhood, Scholarship, and Service. Our chapter has stood on the shoulders of our insightful chartering members and each member’s expertise, skill sets, and passion for the work of our illustrious sisterhood in the hopes of leaving a legacy where lives are impacted, communities are transformed, and the sorority’s mission is upheld. New Jersey Garden City Alumnae Chapter strives for excellence in all that we have done and continue to do for the good of the community, region, and sorority and in partnership with other organizations that align with our purpose.

New Jersey Garden City Alumnae Chapter’s programs are aligned with the goals and objectives of our sorority and directly reflect our organization’s Five-Point Programmatic Thrust and Public Service Initiatives: 
Economic Development
Education Development
International Awareness and Involvement
Physical and Mental Health,
Political Awareness and Involvement/Social Action

In keeping with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, the New Jersey Garden City Alumnae Chapter Arts and Letters Committee parallels the Sorority’s Arts and Letters Commission to preserve and promote individual and community awareness of the various fields of artistic endeavors in the performing, visual, and literary arts.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a private, not-for-profit organization that aims to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities worldwide. Since its founding, more than 300,000 women have joined the organization. The organization is a sisterhood of predominantly Black, college-educated women. The sorority has over 1,000 collegiate and alumnae chapters in the United States, Canada, Japan, England, Germany, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, Bahamas, Jamaica, West Africa, Southern Africa, the Arabian Gulf, and the Republic of Korea.

About New Jersey Garden City Alumnae

The New Jersey Garden City Alumnae Chapter (NJGCAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, was chartered on April 30, 1989 at Rowan University, Glassboro, New Jersey under Dr. Yvonne Kennedy, 19th National President and Madeline Lawson, Director of the Eastern Region. With the chartering of this chapter, sixteen inactive sorors were reclaimed and nine active sorors transferred from other area chapters for a total of twenty- five financial sorors.
